We are so glad that you are thinking about joining us on Sunday for worship. Here is what might be helpful to know:
- Parking-The church has two parking lots you can use. One is next to the building, and the other is diagonally across the street. We do have limited handicap street parking next to accessible entrance.
- Dress - Come as you are! As far as we are concerned, all clothes are "church clothes"
- Our worship services are not performances. We use liturgical prayers that everyone says and we select songs that are easy to sing along with.
- Sit anywhere! If there are spaces in the pews (seating), they are for you!
- Need or want to leave in the middle of the service? No problem. People do it all the time!
- We love having children. We have a children's moment every Sunday and we provide Jr. Church for children. We also do not care if young voices are loud. We do not find them disruptive.
Our Beliefs
- As a United Methodist church, we are a connectional church, in fellowship with all other United Methodist churches. We share a common Discipline for church governance, and we seek unity in our core beliefs.
- If you want to really get into our core beliefs you can find them here: The Articles of Religion of the United Methodist Church
- As United Methodists we believe that our faith should lead us to be active in the world so that we can transform the world. To aid churches like ours in engaging the world and society, the United Methodist Church has a comprehensive set of Social Principles.
- If you have more specific questions about the beliefs of the United Methodist Church, our pastor LOVES to talk about theology and church polity over coffee.
Our History
- We have deep roots in the community of Rensselaer. Our beginnings can be traced all the way back to 1833, which means our faith community was already here when Rensselaer was founded in 1839.
- Our current building dates back to 1890. It has undergone multiple remodels and renovations over the years.
- Our sanctuary has stained glass that is over 100 years old, and we still use an organ for worship that was installed in 1915.
- Over the years a number of other churches have merged with Trinity including Rosebud Church, Barkley UMC, and McCoysburg UMC.
- Despite having a long history, Trinity UMC is a church that continues to look to the future and is willing to adapt to meet the needs of the community.
